The WALTER 6955676 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on non-ferrous metals, with secondary capability on steel and stainless steel. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards, this trigon-style insert features an 80-degree included angle and a TiAlN PVD coating applied through a physical vapor deposition process. The insert carries grade WNN10 and is configured with the FN2 chip breaker geometry, which is optimized for fine finishing passes. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working with indexable turning toolholders in production or job shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications in CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Its positive rake angle of 18 degrees and positive side clearance make it particularly effective when cutting non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper, and brass alloys. Steel and stainless steel are listed as secondary workpiece materials, making this a multi-use insert for shops running mixed material jobs. The WCGT insert style with screw-holding method fits standard WCGT-compatible toolholders.
Designed for use in WCGT-style indexable turning toolholders that accept a screw-clamp holding method. ANSI insert code WCGT21.50.5 and ISO insert code WCGT040202 apply. Compatible with multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal; secondary materials include steel and stainless steel.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure accurate positioning and repeatable tool offset.
