The WALTER 6839055 is a TCMT-style indexable carbide turning insert designed for finishing operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary capability on steel. The insert carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al under the proprietary WSM10S grade designation. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with three cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 6 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. The 0.4 mm corner radius suits fine finishing work, and the FM4 chip breaker geometry manages chip control in light to moderate depth-of-cut passes. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert fits screw-clamped TCMT toolholders and is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary target materials are stainless steel (ISO material group M) and superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S). Steel (ISO group P) is a listed secondary workpiece material. The FM4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, making this insert well suited for tight-tolerance diameter work and finish-bore passes where surface quality and dimensional control are the priority.
Designed for screw-clamped TCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code TCMT21.51 and ISO insert code TCMT110204. Suitable for use in turning, facing, and boring operations across CNC and manual lathe setups that accept this insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver or Torx key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper clamping and repeatability.
