The WALTER 6836818 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CCMT09T308-MM4 WSM10S, engineered for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. This insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al multilayer coating under the proprietary WSM10S grade designation, delivering heat resistance and edge durability at elevated cutting speeds. The 80-degree diamond shape with a 7-degree relief angle and positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip evacuation. With a 0.8 mm corner radius and honed cutting edge, it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians using standard screw-clamp toolholders.
This insert is designed primarily for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary capability on steel (ISO code P). The MM4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in these materials, making this insert appropriate for both roughing-to-finish and light-stock-removal passes on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. It carries two usable cutting edges per insert, providing cost efficiency per edge in high-cycle operations.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a size 09T3 insert. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Industry standard number CCMT3(2.5)2-MM4 WSM10S. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and manual lathes equipped with appropriate CCMT toolholder pockets.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified clamping screw and torque driver to secure the insert in the toolholder pocket; do not overtighten by hand or with non-specified tools, as this can chip the carbide edge. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
