The WALTER 6738345 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert carrying ISO code GX241E200N02CE4 WSM23S, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 2mm cutting width (0.0790 inches), a 0.20mm corner radius (0.0080 inches), and a neutral lead angle suitable for straight-plunge applications. The insert is coated with a multilayer TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al finish applied via PVD process, which provides thermal stability and wear resistance during high-speed cuts. The WSM23S grade is engineered primarily for superalloy workpiece materials. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists in precision machining environments specify this insert for demanding material removal tasks.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting applications in industrial CNC turning environments. Its primary workpiece material classification covers superalloys as well as steel and stainless steel (ISO material codes P, M, and S). The CE4 chipbreaker geometry controls chip evacuation during narrow-groove and cutoff passes. It belongs to the Series GX-E-CE4 insert family and is multi-use capable, making it suitable for both dedicated cutoff operations and contour grooving on difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for Series GX-E-CE4 grooving and parting toolholders compatible with the GX241E200N02CE4 insert seat specification. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and clamping style before installation.
Insert seating and torque should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician per the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw supplied or recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
