The WALTER 6651168 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WCMT trigon geometry, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual turning equipment. Manufactured under the Tiger-tec Silver series, it carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating designated WKK20S, which delivers thermal resistance and edge stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, and a positive 12-degree rake angle. With three usable cutting edges and compatibility with screw-type insert holders, it is suited for production turning environments where tool change efficiency and consistent edge geometry matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its primary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material code K, grade K20), and its secondary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P, grade P10). The RK4 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during moderate to heavy feeds. Typical applications include shaft turning, bore finishing, and face turning on production lathes in automotive, general machining, and industrial manufacturing environments.
Designed for screw-clamp WCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle trigon insert. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications on cast iron (K20) and steel (P10) workpieces. Verify holder pocket dimensions against insert thickness of 0.1563 inches and hole diameter of 0.1730 inches before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert; over-tightening the clamping screw can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or burrs before installing a new edge.
