The WALTER 6651144 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT triangle style, designed for precision material removal in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries a WKK20S grade designation with a CVD-applied TiCN/Al2O3/TiCN multilayer coating from the Tiger-tec Silver series. The insert measures 0.433 inches in length with a 1/4-inch (0.250-inch) inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, providing a stable platform for controlled chip formation. A positive rake angle of 12 degrees combined with the RK4 chip breaker geometry delivers low cutting forces and predictable chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments rely on this insert for consistent, repeatable finishes.
This insert is rated primarily for cast iron (ISO material code K, grade K20) and secondarily for steel (ISO material code P, grade P10). The neutral hand orientation and screw-clamp holding method make it a direct fit for standard TCMT-style toolholders. Typical applications include external turning, face turning, and light boring passes on workpieces where surface integrity and dimensional accuracy are critical. The RK4 chip breaker is optimized for medium-depth cuts up to 0.100 inches (3.00 mm), making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on cast iron components and low-to-medium alloy steels.
Designed for use in standard TCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders. ISO code TCMT110204-RK4 WKK20S and industry standard number TCMT2(1.5)1-RK4 WKK20S. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; package quantity is 1.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians following standard insert-indexing procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque screwdriver for the clamping screw to avoid over-tightening, which can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and screw thread for wear or contamination before each insert change to maintain proper seating and clamping force.
