The WALTER 6650915 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN under the WKK20S grade designation, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With two usable cutting edges per insert, it provides consistent performance across multiple setups. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians typically select this insert for medium to light finishing passes on cast iron and steel components.
This insert is rated primarily for cast iron workpieces (ISO material code K, grade K20) and secondarily for steel (ISO material code P, grade P10). The RK4 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is sized for standard CCMT toolholders and is a multi-use insert suited to both production and maintenance machining environments. The ISO designation is CCMT09T308-RK4 WKK20S and the industry standard number is CCMT3(2.5)2-RK4 WKK20S.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard CCMT-series screw-on toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. ISO designation CCMT09T308-RK4 WKK20S and industry standard number CCMT3(2.5)2-RK4 WKK20S confirm cross-reference fitment. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (K20) and steel (P10).
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using the screw-type clamping method standard to CCMT toolholders. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and applicable shop safety procedures when securing the insert.
