The WALTER 6152445 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying grade designation WSM33S and ANSI code GX242E300N03UF4 WSM33S. It is engineered for grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers where precise, repeatable groove geometry is required. The insert features a 3 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm, and a 0.30 mm corner radius. Its PVD-applied Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN coating stack is designed to extend tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The double-ended design maximizes value per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users.
This insert is intended for grooving superalloys, steels, and stainless steels - material grade codes S30, M30, and P35. The UF4 chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish matter. Typical applications include external grooving on turned components in aerospace, energy, and general industrial production. The clamp-style insert holding method keeps the insert securely seated during interrupted cuts and high-feed passes common in superalloy work.
Designed for use in WALTER GX24-series grooving toolholders that accept GX-style clamp-held inserts. ISO code GX24-2E300N03-UF4 and ANSI code GX242E300N03UF4 WSM33S govern toolholder and insert matching. Verify toolholder seat style and insert size code 2E300N03 before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp - do not over-torque. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp for wear or carbide debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
