The WALTER 6092009 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying grade designation WSM33S and insert style GX, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers. The insert features a 3.00 mm (0.1181 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 22.00 mm. It carries a multi-layer PVD coating combining Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN for extended tool life in demanding cut conditions. The double-ended design delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. A 0.20 mm corner radius and 6-degree lead angle define the edge geometry. Clamp-style insert holding ensures positive, repeatable seating at the toolholder. This insert is part of the Tiger-tec series and is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for grooving and profiling applications in superalloys, steels, and stainless steels, covering material grade designations S30, M30, and P35. The CF5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in these material groups. Right-hand cutting orientation makes it compatible with standard OD grooving toolholders in that configuration. The Tiger-tec series targets high-performance production turning environments where heat resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds are required. Typical applications include aerospace component turning, medical part machining, and general-purpose production turning in ISO P, M, and S material groups.
Designed for use in GX-style clamp-type grooving toolholders compatible with the GX24 insert seat designation. ANSI code GX242E300R6CF5 WSM33S and ISO code GX24-2E300R6-CF5 apply for toolholder cross-reference. Suitable for right-hand OD grooving applications in ISO P, M, and S workpiece material groups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Seat the insert firmly into the GX-style clamp pocket and verify clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before running. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for chips or debris before seating. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating of 22.00 mm to avoid insert fracture or toolholder damage.
