The WALTER 6090583 is a solid carbide double-ended grooving insert designed for high-performance parting and grooving operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Carrying the WSM33S grade designation, it is finished with a multilayer PVD coating combining Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN for extended tool life in demanding cuts. The insert delivers a 3 mm cutting width and supports a maximum depth of cut of 22 mm, making it well suited for medium to deep groove profiles. The CF5 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation, reducing the risk of chip packing in tight grooves. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is built for primary use on superalloys and is rated across material grades S30, M30, and P35, covering stainless steels, general steels, and high-temperature alloys. Its Tiger-tec series designation places it in a family engineered for demanding aerospace, energy, and precision-machined-component applications. The neutral hand orientation suits standard radial grooving toolholders that accept the GX-style clamping interface. The double-ended configuration provides two usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost in production environments.
Designed for use in GX-style clamping toolholders that accept the 2E300N02 insert size. Conforms to ANSI code GX242E300N02CF5 WSM33S and ISO code GX24-2E300N02-CF5, allowing direct cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems meeting those standards.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the GX clamping pocket and torque the clamp fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer specification before running any program. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change. Do not run an insert beyond visible wear limits, as edge breakdown in superalloy cuts can accelerate rapidly.
