The WALTER 5887898 is a double end neutral indexable cutoff blade designed for grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the G1042 blade style, it measures 32 millimeters in blade height and 149.3 millimeters overall length, with a 2.3 millimeter blade width and a 3 millimeter insert width. The self-grip insert holding method secures compatible GXE and GXF style inserts without fasteners, reducing setup time. With a maximum depth of cut of 50 millimeters, this blade handles demanding cutoff work across universal workpiece materials. It conforms to ISO standards and is sized for SBN-series tool blocks. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working in production or job-shop turning environments are the primary users.
This blade is suited for grooving and parting applications across a wide range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and other universal material groups. The neutral cutting direction makes it appropriate for standard right-hand or left-hand turning setups depending on spindle orientation. It is applicable in both light-production and high-volume turning cell environments where consistent cutoff depth and insert repeatability are required. The G1042 style is a recognized blade format within the WALTER grooving system and is intended for use with matching SBN-series tool blocks and GX24-series inserts.
Compatible insert styles include GXE and GXF. Verified compatible inserts: GX24-2E300N02-CE4, GX24-2E300N02-CF5, GX24-2E300N02-CF6, GX24-2E300N020-CE4, GX24-2E300N03-GD3, GX24-2E300N03-GD6, GX24-2E300N03-UD6, GX24-2E300N03-UF4, GX24-2E300N030-GD3, GX24-2E300N030-UA4, GX24-2E300N030-UF4, GX24-2E300N15-RD4, GX24-2E300N150-RD4. Compatible tool block and toolholder styles: SBN12-26K-E, SBN12-26KS-E, SBN16-32-K-E, SBN16-32KS-E, SBN20-32K-E, SBN20-32KS-E, SBN20-46K-E, SBN2020-26-K, SBN2520-32-K, SBN3229-32-K, SBN3229-46-K, SBN4037-46-K.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual lathes. Power down the machine and engage the spindle lock before seating or removing the blade from the tool block. Ensure the SBN-series tool block is clean and free of chips or debris before inserting the blade to achieve proper seating and clamping force. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling system guidelines for tool block torque and overhang specifications.
