The WALTER 5656257 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with compatible P6004-series indexable drill bodies. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied DLC coating, this tip handles non-ferrous metal cutting applications with consistent dimensional accuracy. The cutting diameter measures 0.6890 inches (17.00 mm), and the 140-degree included point angle supports stable entry and reduced thrust in aluminum, copper, brass, and similar N-category workpiece materials. The single helical flute geometry and regular spiral type promote chip evacuation in these softer, gummier materials. Insert seat size C positions this tip in WALTER P6004-compatible drill bodies using a clamp holding method. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians.
This tip is intended for use in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and dedicated drilling operations where non-ferrous metals are the primary workpiece material. Typical applications include high-volume hole production in aluminum castings, copper alloys, and other N-category materials where a DLC coating reduces built-up edge and extends tool life compared to uncoated carbide. The P6004 series is engineered for indexable drilling systems where the cutting tip is replaced independently of the drill body shank, reducing tooling cost per hole and minimizing downtime during production runs.
Designed for use with WALTER P6004-series indexable drill bodies requiring an insert seat size C tip. ISO designation P6004-D17,50R WNN25. Compatible primary and secondary workpiece materials are classified as non-ferrous metals (ISO material group N). Coolant-through is not supported by this tip configuration.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel following the drill body manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for the P6004 seat. Ensure the drill body is removed from the spindle and the machine is locked out before indexing or replacing the tip. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new tip. Do not use damaged or worn seat surfaces, as improper seating affects runout and hole quality.
