The WALTER 5357524 is a WNMG432-NM4WSM30 series indexable turning insert designed for high-demand metal cutting applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from carbide substrate and finished with a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN under the proprietary WSM30 grade designation, this insert delivers heat resistance and edge toughness in demanding cuts. It features a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral hand orientation. Six cutting edges per insert extend tool life between index cycles. The NM4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert as part of a toolholder and clamp or pin retention system.
This insert is primarily rated for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). It is also suitable as a secondary application in steel cutting (ISO code P). Typical use cases include turning, facing, and boring operations where consistent chip control and edge security are required across variable stock conditions. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry suit interrupted and continuous cuts at medium-to-heavy material removal rates, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.2278 inches.
Designed to fit WNMG-series toolholders using clamp or pin retention that accept a WNMG432 (ANSI) or WNMG080402 (ISO) insert size with a 0.2030-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for WNMG insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert - do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before each index to maintain accurate cutting geometry.
