The WALTER 5102612 is an AP-style shim designed for indexable turning toolholders. Shims seat beneath the cutting insert to provide a stable, repeatable seating surface and protect the toolholder pocket from wear. This shim carries a negative rake geometry and is sized for a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, making it compatible with diamond-shaped inserts in that size class. Thickness is 0.25 inches. At 0.003 pounds, it is a lightweight precision component intended for OEM-matched installation in compatible turning tool assemblies. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with Walter-compatible boring bars and turning holders will recognize this as a standard AP-series replacement shim.
This shim is used in CNC and manual turning applications where indexable insert toolholders require a seating shim beneath the cutting insert. The AP shim style and negative rake orientation are common in external and internal turning setups. Compatible toolholders include both straight-shank and cylindrical-shank styles in multiple sizes, covering a range of boring bar and turning holder configurations. This part is suited for production turning environments where toolholder pocket integrity and consistent insert indexing are priorities.
Compatible toolholders as specified by the manufacturer: A16T-DDUNR/L4, A20T-DDUNR/L4, A24T-DDUNR/L4, A32T-DDUNR/L15, A32U-DDUNR/L 4, A40T-DDUNR/L15, A50U-DDUNR/L15, C4-DDJNR/L-27055-15, C4-DDUNR/L-27050-15, C4-DDUNR/L-27080-15, C5-DDJNR/L-35060-15, C5-DDMNL-00115-15, C5-DDUNR/L-27140-15, C5-DDUNR/L-35060-15.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician during insert indexing or toolholder maintenance. Power down and de-energize the machine before servicing the toolholder. Ensure the shim seat and toolholder pocket are clean and free of chips or debris before placing the shim. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the insert clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can deform the shim or damage the pocket.
