The WALTER 5004797 is a solid carbide milling insert in the ODHT series, designed for high-efficiency milling of non-ferrous metals. Carrying the ANSI and ISO designation ODHT0504ZZN-G88 WK10, this insert features an octagon shape with eight cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 20 degrees, and a sharp cutting edge style. The WK10 manufacturer grade combined with a bright, uncoated finish makes it well suited for aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where coating-related built-up edge is a concern. The G88 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow during face and pocket milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in precision machining shops are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for non-ferrous milling applications in both production and job-shop environments. It is compatible with the M5004 cutter series and is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method. The ODHT0504 insert size code indicates a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 3/16-inch nominal thickness. It is a neutral-hand insert, so it fits standard ODHT-style pockets without left- or right-hand orientation restrictions. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocket milling of aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with the M5004 cutter series. Insert designation ODHT0504ZZN-G88 WK10 conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with ODHT-style insert pockets using screw-clamp holding.
Installation is performed by a licensed machinist or tooling technician. Before changing inserts, bring the spindle to a full stop and follow lockout procedures per shop safety protocols. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturer torque recommendation - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before seating the replacement insert.
