The WALTER 5004476 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It carries the CCGT060202-X5 WXM15 designation from the Tiger-tec series and features a multilayer TiAlN/TiN PVD coating that extends cutting edge life under demanding conditions. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a positive rake geometry, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface quality are critical. Solid carbide construction and the WXM15 grade provide the rigidity and wear resistance required for consistent performance in these applications.
This insert is intended for use in boring bars and holders that accept CCGT-style inserts secured by a screw clamping method. It targets CNC turning centers and boring machines in production and job shop environments. Primary application is machining steel (ISO P) workpieces, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M and K) materials. The X5 chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during light to medium depth-of-cut boring passes, reducing the risk of chip packing in tight bore conditions. Machinists and CNC operators working with tight bore diameters will find the 0.250-inch inscribed circle and compact geometry practical for restricted-access applications.
Designed for use in boring bars and turning tool holders that accept CCGT-style screw-clamped inserts. ANSI code CCGT2(1.5).5-X5 WXM15 and ISO code CCGT060202-X5 WXM15 designations can be used to confirm holder compatibility. Verify holder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before tightening the clamping screw, and use the torque wrench recommended by the tool holder manufacturer to avoid over-tightening. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
