The VLIER SSSD57N is a threaded spring plunger designed for precise, repeatable positioning and indexing in light-duty mechanical assemblies. The plunger threads into a tapped hole using a standard 5/16-18 thread and delivers controlled end force through a spring-loaded nose. The stainless steel body resists corrosion in harsh or washdown environments, while the Delrin nose provides smooth, low-friction contact with mating surfaces. A locking element secures the plunger in place after installation, preventing loosening from vibration. Thread length is 1 inch, plunger projection is 3/16 inch, and the plunger diameter ranges from 0.133 to 0.135 inches. Mechanical assemblers, tool builders, and fixture designers are the typical installers.
This spring plunger is suited for jigs, fixtures, positioning systems, and tooling applications in manufacturing and industrial environments. It installs in any application requiring a spring-loaded detent or locating point where the installed component must stay fixed during operation. The locking element makes it appropriate for high-vibration assemblies where an unlocked plunger would back out over time. The Delrin nose material makes it compatible with applications where marring of mating surfaces must be avoided.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct installation spring plunger for standard 5/16-18 tapped holes in industrial fixtures, jigs, and positioning assemblies.
Installation requires a properly tapped 5/16-18 hole to the correct depth to accommodate the 1 inch thread length. Power down or de-energize any machine or assembly before installing or removing spring plungers in live tooling or automated fixtures. Use a hex wrench or suitable driver with the locking element feature to achieve proper seating without over-torquing. Follow applicable machine safety standards and facility lockout/tagout procedures before servicing any assembly containing this component.
