The VLIER NNS57N is a threaded spring plunger designed for use in positioning, indexing, and light-duty locking applications across industrial and mechanical assemblies. The plunger features a 5/16-18 thread with a 1 inch thread length and a standard-length steel body measuring 1 inch. The Delrin nose provides a low-friction, non-marring contact point, while the integrated locking element secures the plunger in position after installation. Initial end force is 1.5 pounds and final end force is 4.5 pounds. Plunger projection is 3/16 inches with a maximum plunger diameter of 0.135 inches. Licensed technicians and precision assembly mechanics handle installation in most production and maintenance environments.
This plunger is suited for machine tool fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies requiring consistent, repeatable spring-loaded positioning. The locking element holds the plunger body firmly in the threaded bore, preventing back-out under vibration or repeated cycling. The Delrin nose makes this version appropriate for applications where metal-to-metal contact is undesirable, such as locating against finished surfaces or softer substrates. It is used in both OEM production builds and field maintenance of industrial equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install threaded spring plunger for fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies using a standard 5/16-18 tapped bore.
Installation is performed using a hex wrench or spanner tool sized to the body drive feature; power down or de-energize any associated machinery before servicing. The locking element is engaged by tightening the plunger body to the appropriate snug-fit torque in the tapped hole - do not overtighten, as this can deform the locking element. Confirm plunger projection and end force are appropriate for the detent or indexing load before final assembly. General mechanical assembly practices and applicable facility safety procedures apply.
