The VLIER B48 is a threaded ball plunger designed to deliver controlled end force in precision mechanical assemblies. This small-format, spring-loaded device uses a steel ball seated in a steel body to provide consistent, repeatable positioning and detent action. The 6-40 thread allows installation into tapped holes in tight-clearance applications. With a ball diameter of 0.078 inches, a body length of 0.312 inches, and a maximum ball reach of 0.023 inches, the B48 is one of the smallest and lightest spring-loaded plungers available for light-force indexing and positioning tasks. Initial end force is 0.5 pounds and final end force is 1 pound.
The B48 is suited for applications requiring controlled, light spring force in compact mechanical assemblies. Typical uses include panel detents, sliding mechanism indexing, and component positioning in instruments, jigs, fixtures, and light-duty industrial equipment. The controlled end force profile makes it appropriate for any assembly where a repeatable, low-force ball detent is needed without exceeding component stress limits. This plunger installs into standard 6-40 tapped holes and is suitable wherever a minimal footprint and low actuation force are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or original-install threaded ball plunger for light-force detent and positioning applications using 6-40 tapped hole patterns in mechanical assemblies, fixtures, and instrumentation.
Installation is performed by threading the B48 directly into a pre-tapped 6-40 hole using an appropriate driver or wrench on the body flats. Ensure the mating hole is clean and correctly threaded before installation to avoid cross-threading the small-diameter fastener. De-energize or mechanically lock any moving assemblies before servicing plungers in active mechanisms. Do not overtighten, as the small thread size has limited torque capacity.
