The VIEGA 78117 is a copper press pipe reducer designed to transition between 2-inch and 1-1/4-inch nominal pipe sizes using a fitting-by-press end style connection. It is used in pressurized hydronic, plumbing, and mechanical piping systems where a permanent, solder-free reduction in pipe diameter is required. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors install this fitting using a compatible press tool, eliminating open-flame soldering in occupied or sensitive spaces. The 2 x 1-1/4 inch nominal sizing covers a common reduction step in commercial and residential distribution piping.
This reducer fits into copper press systems used in potable water, heating, and cooling piping applications. The fitting-by-press end configuration allows one side to connect to an existing fitting socket and the other to be pressed directly onto copper pipe using a standard press jaw set. It is well suited for retrofit work, mechanical rooms, and new construction where speed and flame-free installation are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style press fitting for use in copper press piping systems accepting 2-inch and 1-1/4-inch nominal copper pipe per standard press jaw tooling.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Depressurize and drain the piping system before cutting into any existing line. A compatible press tool and correctly sized jaw or ring set are required to achieve a proper press connection. Do not attempt to press fittings on wet or pressurized pipe, as this will result in an incomplete seal.
