The VIEGA 78077 is a copper press pipe reducer designed for fast, flame-free pipe connections in plumbing and mechanical systems. This reducing coupling transitions from a 3/4-inch pipe to a 1/2-inch pipe using a fitting-by-press end style, eliminating the need for open-flame soldering. Rated to 200 psi and suitable for operating temperatures from 0 to 250 degrees F, the 78077 is built for reliable performance in a wide range of water distribution and hydronic applications. At 2.17 inches in length, it fits into tight spaces where traditional solder fittings require more clearance and setup time. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
The VIEGA 78077 is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems where copper piping requires a size reduction between supply lines, branch connections, or fixture rough-ins. The press-style connection is especially practical in renovation and retrofit work where open flame is restricted or where speed of installation is a priority. The fitting-by-press configuration means one end accepts a standard copper fitting and the other end is pressed using a compatible press tool.
Designed as an OEM-style press fitting for use with 3/4-inch by 1/2-inch copper pipe systems using a compatible press tool. Verify tool jaw compatibility with the press end before installation.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber following local plumbing codes and IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water supply before cutting into any existing line. A manufacturer-compatible press tool with the correct jaw size is required to make a proper press connection — do not attempt to solder or crimp a press-style fitting. Inspect the pipe end for roundness and remove all burrs before inserting into the fitting.
