The VIEGA 49378 is a PureFlow Model V5615 reducing coupling designed for PEX press piping systems in residential and light commercial plumbing applications. This polymer fitting transitions between a 1-1/2 inch nominal PEX pipe and a 1-1/4 inch nominal PEX pipe using a press-style end connection, eliminating the need for open flame or soldering. The press end style creates a permanent, leak-resistant joint when crimped with compatible PEX press tooling. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting during new construction and retrofit work where pipe size reduction is required within a PEX distribution system.
This reducing coupling is suited for potable water distribution lines, hydronic heating supply and return runs, and similar closed-loop fluid systems where PEX piping is the specified material. The press-style connection is well regarded in commercial and residential plumbing for its repeatable installation and compatibility with modern press tool systems. It is appropriate for use in concealed and accessible locations where a reduction from 1-1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe diameter is required.
Designed as an OEM-style PEX press reducing coupling for use in residential and light commercial PEX piping systems requiring a 1-1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inch nominal size transition.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before cutting into any existing piping. Use only compatible PEX press tooling to achieve a proper crimp; do not substitute with non-rated crimpers. Verify the pressed joint visually after completion to confirm full engagement before restoring system pressure.
