The VIEGA 44228 is a 90-degree stub-out elbow designed for PEX-based water supply installations in residential and light commercial plumbing. Manufactured from copper, this fitting features a 1/2-inch PEX insert crimp end on one side and a 1/2-inch closed female copper sweat end on the other. The stub-out dimensions are 3-1/2 inches by 8 inches, providing the correct offset for wall-mounted fixture connections such as lavatory faucets, ice makers, and washing machine valves. Weighing 0.263 pounds, this fitting is made in the USA and is part of the Viega PureFlow product line. Licensed plumbers performing rough-in work on PEX supply systems are the primary installers of this component.
This stub-out elbow is used in rough-in plumbing applications where a PEX supply line transitions through a wall plate to a copper sweat stub-out for fixture connection. The 3-1/2-inch by 8-inch body accommodates standard wall framing depths and positions the outlet correctly for finish trim and escutcheon plates. The crimp connection end accepts standard 1/2-inch PEX pipe secured with a crimp ring using a calibrated crimp tool. It is suited for hot or cold domestic water supply lines in new construction and remodel projects.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for 1/2-inch PEX crimp supply systems using standard crimp-ring connections. Compatible with 1/2-inch PEX-A, PEX-B, and PEX-C tubing when installed with a calibrated crimp tool and appropriate crimp rings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the main water supply and depressurize the line before making any connections. Use a calibrated PEX crimp tool to secure the crimp ring on the insert end, and verify ring placement is correct before crimping. The copper sweat end should be joined using standard soldering practices; do not apply heat to the crimp connection or PEX tubing.
