The VARGUS 58561 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. Designated as the 4ERN60 VKX style, it cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form in a right-hand orientation. The insert carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process, which improves surface hardness and tool life on a range of workpiece materials. It covers a threads-per-inch range of 7 to 5 TPI and a metric pitch range of 3.50 to 5.00 mm, making it suitable for cutting multiple thread pitches without a tool change. Machinists and CNC operators working in production threading applications install this insert as a direct indexable replacement.
This insert is used in external threading operations on conventional and CNC turning centers in both job shop and production environments. The 4ER insert style fits compatible laydown threading toolholders. With a 12.70 mm inscribed circle and a 4.76 mm thickness, it seats in standard 4ER-series pockets. The 1/2 inch inscribed circle dimension and a corner radius of 0.530 inches support consistent thread form accuracy across the covered TPI range. It is appropriate for threading mild steels, alloy steels, and similar machinable materials where TiN-coated carbide tooling is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard 4ER-series laydown threading toolholders that accept a 12.70 mm inscribed circle, 4.76 mm thick indexable insert.
Installation of threading inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating. Never index or remove an insert while the spindle is in motion.
