The VARGUS 42268 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal partial-profile 60-degree thread cutting. Coated with TiCN via a PVD process, it delivers consistent wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert covers a thread pitch range of 0.50 mm to 1.25 mm, corresponding to 48 to 20 TPI, and seats into Mini 3 series toolholders. With a 4.00 mm inscribed circle and a 1.87 mm thickness, it is sized for precision threading in small-bore applications. Machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in lathes and turning centers performing internal thread operations.
This insert is suited for internal threading in both production and job-shop environments where a single insert must handle a broad TPI range without a profile change. The universal workpiece material compatibility, designated H, K, M, N, P, and S material codes, makes it practical for stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and general steels. The partial-profile 60-degree geometry means the insert cuts thread flanks without controlling the crest, allowing it to work across thread families that share the 60-degree included angle standard.
Designed for use with Mini 3 series threading toolholders accepting the 4.0KIR insert style. Compatible with workpiece materials spanning H, K, M, N, P, and S material group designations per ISO classification.
Installation of threading inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before any toolholder work. Seat the insert fully and secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using calibrated tooling. Verify insert orientation for right-hand cutting direction before engaging the spindle. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris prior to each insert change to prevent insert rocking and premature edge failure.
