The VARGUS 30252 is a laydown-style carbide threading insert engineered for cutting external NPT threads. Built from solid carbide with a VK8 grade and a PVD-applied AlTiN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life in demanding turning applications. The 60-degree included angle conforms to NPT thread geometry, and the right-hand cut orientation suits standard lathe setups. At a thickness of 0.1420 inches and an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch, it seats securely in compatible MACH TT series toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in metalworking and pipe-fitting production are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for external NPT threading operations on pipe and fitting stock in both production shop and job shop environments. The NPT thread standard makes it applicable to plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping components where tapered pipe thread forms are required. The solid carbide substrate and AlTiN/TiN PVD coating support use in ferrous and non-ferrous materials at elevated cutting speeds. The laydown seating style provides a stable insert orientation and repeatable indexing during high-volume threading runs.
Designed for use with MACH TT series toolholders that accept laydown-style threading inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket specifications before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state. Use the correct torque wrench or insert clamp tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for debris before seating the insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of thread-form deviation or surface finish degradation.
