The VANCO 280756 is a composite audio/video balun extender that converts two RCA signals to unshielded twisted pair (UTP) transmission over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable run. The unit is sold as a one-pair kit, meaning both the transmitter and receiver baluns are included for a complete point-to-point extension. Low-voltage AV installers use this device to distribute composite video and analog audio signals from a source to a display or amplifier in applications where running coaxial or RCA cabling is impractical. The balun design converts the unbalanced RCA signal to a balanced differential signal, which reduces hum and interference pickup over longer structured-wiring runs.
This extender is suited for residential and light-commercial installations where composite video sources such as security DVRs, older media players, or satellite receivers need to be extended to remote displays or distribution points. It fits into existing structured-wiring systems that use Cat5e or Cat6 horizontal runs, eliminating the need to pull new coaxial cable. The one-pair configuration supports a single two-channel audio/video signal path per kit, making it appropriate for dedicated single-zone AV distribution or point-to-point AV feed applications.
Designed for use with Cat5e or Cat6 UTP structured cabling in residential and light-commercial AV distribution systems that use standard RCA composite video and analog audio connections.
Installation is typically performed by a low-voltage AV technician or structured-wiring installer. Terminate Cat5e or Cat6 cable to the balun connectors following standard TIA-568 wiring practices and ensure both ends use the same pair assignment. Power down any connected source and display equipment before making or breaking signal connections. Do not run UTP signal cable in the same conduit as line-voltage wiring, as this can induce interference on the balanced signal path.
