The VALUE COLLECTION UNK-56 is a taper shank live center designed for use on lathes and turning centers where rotating workpiece support is required. Built with a Morse Taper 2 (MT2) shank and triple-bearing construction, it supports workpieces up to 462.97 pounds at speeds up to 5,000 RPM. The standard 60-degree included angle point suits the majority of center-drilling applications. At 0.85 pounds, the unit is compact enough for bench lathes and mid-size turning machines. The steel body provides the rigidity needed for consistent, repeatable support across production and job-shop environments. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers.
This live center is suited to metalworking lathes equipped with an MT2 tailstock taper. It handles both light finishing passes and heavier roughing operations within its rated workpiece weight and RPM limits. The standard point geometry fits workpieces center-drilled to 60-degree spec, which covers the large majority of turned shaft, rod, and spindle work encountered in general machining. The triple-bearing design reduces heat buildup at elevated speeds, making it appropriate for continuous-cycle production turning as well as intermittent job-shop use.
Designed as a direct-fit live center for metalworking lathes and turning centers with an MT2 tailstock taper socket.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before installing or removing the live center, disengage the lathe and bring the spindle to a complete stop. Clean the tailstock taper bore and the MT2 shank thoroughly before seating to ensure accurate alignment and prevent fretting. Do not exceed the rated 5,000 RPM or the 462.97 lb workpiece weight limit, and verify that the workpiece center-drill angle matches the 60-degree point geometry before engaging the tailstock.
