The VALUE COLLECTION STI-UNC100SNP is a tap guide designed to keep hand taps aligned perpendicular to the workpiece during threading operations. Accurate tap alignment reduces the risk of broken taps, cross-threaded holes, and off-angle threads in metal, plastic, or composite materials. This guide accommodates tap sizes from 1/4 inch through 9/16 inch, making it a practical shop tool for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and HVAC and plumbing tradespeople who regularly thread fastener holes in the field or on the bench.
This tap guide suits a wide range of threading tasks encountered in trade work, including tapping holes in pipe flanges, equipment housings, brackets, and structural components. It is well suited for both shop use and jobsite applications where a drill press or machine tapping setup is not available and hand-tapping accuracy is critical. The guide is packaged as a single unit, making it a straightforward add-on to a standard tap-and-die set.
Designed for use with standard hand taps in the 1/4 inch to 9/16 inch size range. Compatible with straight-shank taps commonly found in UNC and UNF tap-and-die sets used in general trade and maintenance applications.
No power tools are required for use. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and seat the guide flat against the work surface to maintain proper alignment. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to the tap to reduce friction and extend tap life. This tool does not replace proper tapping technique; back the tap off periodically to break chips when tapping ferrous materials.
