The VALUE COLLECTION SM2300340 is a spiral shell reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS), this reamer features a left-hand spiral flute geometry paired with a right-hand cutting direction, a combination that helps control chip flow and reduces chatter during the cut. It measures 3-5/8 inches in diameter with a 5-inch overall length and weighs approximately 0.5 pounds. A 2-inch center hole allows for arbor mounting, and the tool is rated for Arbor Number 12 compatibility. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this reamer to bring bored or drilled holes to a precise final diameter.
This shell reamer is suited for medium to large diameter hole finishing operations in production and job-shop environments. Its high-speed steel construction handles a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials at moderate cutting speeds. The shell-style design mounts on a separate arbor rather than using an integrated shank, which allows the cutting head to be replaced independently as it wears. Typical applications include finishing holes in fixtures, dies, and structural components where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical.
Designed for use with Arbor Number 12 shell reamer arbors. The 2-inch center hole is the mounting interface; verify arbor taper and drive key dimensions against your specific arbor before installation.
Shell reamers are installed by machinists on milling machines, drill presses, or boring mills using a matched arbor. Secure the arbor to the machine spindle and confirm the drive keys engage properly before beginning a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine before mounting or removing the reamer. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material, and always apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality.
