The VALUE COLLECTION SM1500031 is a straight-shank chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled holes to a precise 31/64-inch (0.4844 inch) diameter. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for demanding production and maintenance reaming in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The six-flute spiral design in a right-hand cutting direction improves chip evacuation and surface finish compared to straight-flute alternatives. With an 8-inch overall length and a 2-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and collet holders in both manual and CNC machine tool setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this type of tooling.
This reamer is suited for general-purpose hole finishing in job shop, maintenance, and light production environments. Its straight-cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in drill press chucks, milling machine collets, and lathe tailstock chucks without an adapter. The cobalt steel construction makes it appropriate for harder workpiece materials where high-speed steel tooling wears prematurely. It is not an over- or under-size reamer, meaning it is ground to the nominal 31/64-inch dimension for standard tolerance holes. Typical applications include bearing seat preparation, dowel pin holes, and close-tolerance bore finishing where a drilled hole requires final sizing.
Designed as a standard straight-shank chucking reamer compatible with drill presses, milling machines, lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with drill chucks or collet systems sized for a straight-cylindrical shank.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by machinists following standard machine shop practices. Always secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and confirm runout before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Never use a reamer to remove more stock than the tool geometry is rated for — pre-drill or bore the hole to within standard reaming allowance before running the reamer through.
