The VALUE COLLECTION SM0407870 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers a nominal diameter of 0.7870 inches and an overall length of 9.5 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill chuck or collet, making it compatible with drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. This tool is intended for use by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians who require tight-tolerance hole sizing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This chucking reamer is suited for production and job-shop environments where accurate final-diameter holes are required after drilling. The 2.5-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for through-holes and moderate-depth blind holes. Typical applications include bearing fits, bushing installations, and precision pin holes in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and brass workpieces. The HSS construction handles a wide range of cutting speeds and materials without the brittleness associated with carbide tooling, making it a practical choice for general-purpose reaming work.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the tool diameter.
Chucking reamers are installed by a machinist or tooling technician — ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before cutting. Always ream at reduced RPM compared to drilling and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Do not use this tool for stock removal beyond the reaming allowance; pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
