The VALUE COLLECTION SM0406180 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise 0.6180-inch diameter. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent dimensional accuracy in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill press chuck, lathe tailstock, or CNC turret. With a 9-inch overall length and a 2.25-inch flute length, this reamer handles moderate-depth through-holes and blind bores in production and toolroom environments. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle operation. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for this reamer when tolerance and surface finish in the bore matter.
This reamer is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and light manufacturing applications where holes must be brought to a close-tolerance finish diameter. It is appropriate for use on drill presses, lathes, and CNC turning centers. Typical applications include bearing seat preparation, dowel pin hole finishing, and bushing installation where a hand reamer lacks the rigidity needed for repeatable results. The straight flute geometry works well in through-hole applications on materials that produce broken chips.
Designed as a machine chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC turning or machining centers equipped with a standard drill chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
A licensed machinist or skilled tool-and-die technician should secure the shank concentrically in a chuck or collet before operation to minimize runout. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the reamer. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Never force the reamer into an undersized pilot hole — the pre-drilled hole should leave only a small amount of stock for the reamer to remove.
