The VALUE COLLECTION SM0400985 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise 0.0985-inch diameter. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for accurate sizing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The bright, uncoated finish maintains close dimensional tolerances right out of the box. The straight-cylindrical shank seats firmly in standard drill chucks and collet holders, making it straightforward to deploy on drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this reamer when a drilled hole must be brought to a tight finish diameter with consistent roundness and surface finish.
This reamer falls within the 0.0500 to 0.0999-inch diameter range category, making it suited for small-diameter finish work in precision components, jigs, fixtures, and close-tolerance assemblies. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. It is appropriate for low- to medium-volume production and maintenance applications where a reliable HSS reamer is preferred over carbide alternatives due to cost or interrupted-cut conditions.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.0985-inch diameter class.
A licensed machinist or trained tool operator should set spindle speed and feed rate appropriate for HSS reamers in the workpiece material before use. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or securing the reamer in the chuck or collet. Use a cutting fluid compatible with the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve the desired surface finish. Never force a reamer to remove excess stock — pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
