The VALUE COLLECTION SC70572417 is an 8-inch square American-pattern file designed for material removal, deburring, and shaping tasks in metal fabrication, pipefitting, and general trade work. This double-cut bastard file features a square cross-section measuring 5/16 inches wide and 5/16 inches thick, making it well-suited for filing slots, keyways, and square corners. The tang configuration accepts a standard file handle. Double-cut teeth provide aggressive stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and the bastard cut grade sits in the mid-range of coarseness, balancing speed with surface finish.
This file is a standard bench and hand-filing tool used by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers for dressing metal edges, fitting parts, and cleaning up burrs after cutting or threading. It is suited to both shop and field use wherever a square file profile is required to reach into corners or elongate square openings.
Designed as a standard American-pattern square file suitable for use with any compatible file handle accepting a tang-style file tang. Compatible with common bench vise and hand-filing applications across trade disciplines.
Always seat a proper handle onto the tang before use to prevent hand injury from an exposed tang end. Secure the workpiece in a vise or clamp before filing. Apply forward stroke pressure only and lift on the return stroke to extend tooth life. Inspect the file for cracks or broken teeth before each use and replace if damaged.
