The VALUE COLLECTION SC70572219 is a 6-inch square American-pattern file designed for material removal and finishing in metalworking and fabrication applications. It features a double-cut tooth pattern, which uses two sets of intersecting diagonal rows to cut more aggressively and remove material faster than a single-cut file. The bastard cut coarseness places it in the middle of the standard coarseness range, making it effective for general-purpose stock removal before moving to finer cuts. The file terminates in a tang end, intended for use with a separate handle. Overall cross-section measures 7/32 inches wide by 7/32 inches thick, giving it a compact square profile suited to slots, keyways, and tight internal corners.
This file is used by machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance tradespeople for deburring, shaping, and fitting metal components. The square profile makes it particularly well-suited for enlarging or cleaning up square and rectangular openings, filing internal corners to 90 degrees, and fitting keyways or slots. At 6 inches, it is a short-length file appropriate for close-quarter work and bench vise operations where a longer file would be unwieldy.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or supplemental file compatible with standard file handles that accept a tang-style file. Fits typical bench filing, deburring, and metalworking applications across trade and industrial settings.
A licensed machinist, pipefitter, or qualified tradesperson should select the appropriate file coarseness and profile for the workpiece material and tolerance required. Always seat the tang fully into a properly sized file handle before use to prevent hand injury. Secure the workpiece in a bench vise before filing to maintain control and achieve consistent stroke results. Inspect the file teeth before each use and replace the file if teeth are worn, broken, or loaded with material that cannot be cleared with a file card.
