The VALUE COLLECTION SC0850138 is a high-speed steel Morse taper core drill designed for enlarging and finishing pre-existing holes in metal workpieces. With a 1-19/32-inch (1.5938 inches decimal) cutting diameter and a 5MT shank designation, this drill fits directly into Morse taper spindles on drill presses, lathes, and boring machines without requiring a separate chuck. The four-flute configuration improves chip evacuation and surface finish compared to two-flute designs, making it well suited to production and maintenance machining environments. An oxide coating provides mild corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician is the typical installer and operator.
This core drill is used in metalworking shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments where accurate hole enlargement is required. It is appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole applications in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 9-7/8-inch flute length accommodates moderate-depth bores, while the full 16-7/8-inch overall length provides clearance on deep-throat fixtures. Right-hand spiral and right-hand cutting direction are standard for conventional clockwise spindle rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or aftermarket core drill for machine tool spindles accepting a No. 5 Morse taper shank. Confirm spindle bore taper designation before installation.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with Morse taper tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the taper shank. Seat the taper firmly using a draw bar or drift as required by the machine design, and verify there is no lateral play before engaging the workpiece. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and drill diameter.
