The VALUE COLLECTION R52001688 is a 7/16-14 UNC hex lock nut with a nylon insert locking mechanism, manufactured from Grade 5 steel with a zinc-plated finish. The nylon insert compresses against the bolt thread as the nut is driven, creating friction that resists loosening from vibration and torque. The nut measures 29/64 inches in height with a 5/8-inch width across flats. This type of fastener is installed by mechanical contractors, millwrights, and maintenance technicians wherever a reliable, reusable prevailing-torque lock is required in light to medium structural and mechanical assemblies.
This hex lock nut is suited for general industrial, commercial, and light structural applications using standard UNC inch-series fasteners. The Grade 5 steel construction and zinc coating provide adequate corrosion resistance for indoor and protected outdoor environments. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of bolted connections. Typical use cases include equipment mounting, bracket assemblies, HVAC equipment frames, and general mechanical maintenance work where vibration-resistant fastening is needed.
Designed for use with 7/16-14 UNC inch-series bolts and threaded studs in standard right-hand thread configurations. The nylon insert is not rated for sustained high-temperature service above the insert material threshold; verify application temperature before installation.
Install using a standard open-end, box, or socket wrench sized to 5/8 inches across flats. De-energize or lock out any equipment before performing fastener maintenance in electrical or mechanical systems. Nylon insert lock nuts are generally considered reusable for a limited number of cycles; inspect the nylon insert for deformation or wear before reinstalling a removed nut. Fastener torque should conform to the assembly engineer's specification or applicable industry standard for the joint class and bolt grade.
