The VALUE COLLECTION R52001394 is a 1-8 UNC hex lock nut with a nylon insert locking mechanism, manufactured from Grade 316 stainless steel with a plain (bright/uncoated) finish. The nylon insert deforms around the mating thread when driven home, creating a prevailing-torque lock that resists vibration loosening without the need for thread-locking compounds or secondary fasteners. At 1-3/64 inches in height and 1-7/16 inches across the flats, this is a heavy-body nut sized for 1-inch nominal diameter fasteners. It carries a right-hand thread direction and a 2B thread fit class, making it fully interchangeable with standard UNC externally threaded fasteners. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, marine technicians, and industrial maintenance crews reach for 316 stainless hardware when corrosion resistance in wet or chemically aggressive environments is a requirement.
This nut is suited for applications where vibration resistance and corrosion resistance must work together. Grade 316 stainless steel adds molybdenum to the alloy compared with 304-series material, giving it superior resistance to chlorides and salt spray. Typical install scenarios include marine hardware assemblies, coastal HVAC equipment mounting, chemical processing piping supports, pool and spa mechanical room fastening, and stainless structural connections in food-service or pharmaceutical facilities. The 1-8 UNC thread size is common in structural bolting applications where 1-inch bolts are specified.
Designed for use with 1-inch nominal diameter, 1-8 UNC right-hand threaded fasteners conforming to inch-system fastener standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified tradesperson familiar with structural or mechanical fastening standards. Nylon insert lock nuts are single-use fasteners — once fully driven and removed, the insert loses its prevailing-torque effectiveness and the nut should be replaced. Use a properly sized 1-7/16-inch wrench or socket; avoid adjustable wrenches that can round the hex. When torquing to a structural specification, consult the applicable design standard for the assembly, as nylon inserts are rated for temperatures generally below 250 degrees F and should not be used in high-heat applications.
