The VALUE COLLECTION PR01.75X12 is a decarb-free A2 air-hardening tool steel round bar designed for precision tooling and die-making applications. Measuring 1.75 inches in diameter and 12 inches in overall length, this round bar is produced with a positive diameter tolerance of +0.020 to +0.035 inches, eliminating the decarburized surface layer that can compromise heat-treat results on standard tool steel stock. A2 grade tool steel offers a strong balance of wear resistance, toughness, and dimensional stability through the air-hardening process. Machinists, tool and die makers, and tool room technicians work with this material to produce punches, dies, gauges, and precision cutting tools.
This stock-length round bar is suited for tool room and job shop use where consistent A2 material properties are required. The decarb-free condition means the bar can be machined directly to finished dimensions and sent to heat treat without requiring extra stock removal to expose clean steel beneath an oxidized surface layer. Typical applications include fabrication of die components, dowel pins, tool shanks, and other parts where dimensional accuracy before and after hardening is critical.
Designed as a standard stock-length A2 tool steel round suitable for general tool room, die shop, and precision machining applications requiring air-hardening tool steel in a 1.75-inch diameter format.
Cutting and machining of tool steel round bar should be performed by a qualified machinist using appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting fluids for high-alloy tool steel. Heat treatment of A2 tool steel requires controlled atmosphere or vacuum furnace equipment and should be performed by a qualified heat treater following recognized procedures for air-hardening grades. Always follow applicable shop safety practices, including proper guarding, chip control, and personal protective equipment when sawing or turning tool steel stock. Verify dimensional requirements before machining to finished size, accounting for any distortion typical of the air-hardening process.
