The VALUE COLLECTION PR.75X12 is a decarburization-free A2 air hardening tool steel round bar stocked at 0.75 inches in diameter and 12 inches overall length. Decarb-free stock means the outer surface retains full carbon content, eliminating the need to machine away a degraded skin layer before heat treatment. At 1.60 pounds per foot, this round is well suited for toolmakers, die makers, and machinists who need a reliable, heat-treatable blank for punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. The diameter tolerance runs from plus 0.010 to plus 0.020 inches over nominal, ensuring consistent oversize stock ready for finish grinding to final size.
A2 tool steel is a general-purpose air hardening grade commonly used in cold-work tooling applications where good wear resistance, moderate toughness, and dimensional stability through heat treatment are required. This 12-inch stock length is practical for single-part or short-run tooling projects in job shops, toolrooms, and maintenance departments. The 12-inch length carries a length tolerance of plus 0.250 to minus 0.000 inches. Machinists and tool and die makers are the primary users, cutting blanks to length and grinding or turning to finished dimensions before hardening and tempering.
Designed as a general-purpose cold-work tooling blank suitable for punches, dies, gauges, and similar tool steel applications where A2 air hardening grade is specified.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate cutting fluids and personal protective equipment. Heat treatment of A2 tool steel, including hardening and tempering, should follow the material manufacturer's published thermal cycle guidelines and should be performed in controlled atmosphere or vacuum furnaces to maintain the decarb-free condition. Allow material to reach room temperature before inspection and final grinding operations.
