The VALUE COLLECTION PB--20561-6 is a 6-inch flat American-pattern file with a double cut and bastard coarseness rating. It measures 5/8 inches wide and 5/32 inches thick, with a tang end designed to accept a file handle. Double cut files use two sets of diagonal teeth crossed at opposing angles, producing a faster, more aggressive cut than a single cut file. This makes the PB--20561-6 well suited for rapid stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is a standard hand tool used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance tradespeople across industrial and mechanical service environments.
This flat bastard cut file is appropriate for general-purpose metal filing tasks where moderate to coarse material removal is needed. The flat profile allows work on flat surfaces as well as inside corners and slots when using the edge. Typical applications include deburring cut pipe ends, cleaning threads, fitting metal parts, and smoothing rough castings or weld spatter. The bastard cut sits between coarse and second-cut grades, making it a practical first-pass tool before finishing with a finer file.
Designed as a standard American-pattern flat file compatible with any tang-style file handle sized for a 6-inch file.
File handles are sold separately and must be properly seated on the tang before use to prevent hand injury. Always wear cut-resistant gloves and eye protection when hand filing metal. File in forward strokes only, lifting the file on the return to preserve tooth life. Secure workpieces in a vise before filing to maintain control and accuracy.
