The VALUE COLLECTION O1D17646 is an O-1 oil hardening drill rod machined from tool steel to a diameter of 17/64 inches (0.2660 inches decimal) and cut to a standard 36-inch length. O-1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade known for its good machinability and ability to hold a sharp edge after heat treatment. This rod stock is used as raw material for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, reamers, and custom tooling. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians work with this material in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and industrial maintenance settings.
This drill rod is suited for applications where a precision-ground, round bar stock is needed before heat treatment or in the annealed state for machining. The 17/64-inch diameter and 36-inch length make it a practical blank for producing small-diameter tooling components. It is commonly stocked in machine shops and tool rooms handling general tooling fabrication or repair work that calls for oil-hardening tool steel.
Designed as standard O-1 oil hardening tool steel drill rod stock for use in general tooling fabrication applications requiring a 17/64-inch diameter round bar.
Cutting and machining of tool steel rod should be performed with appropriate metal-cutting equipment and personal protective equipment including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves. If heat treating, follow established oil quench procedures for O-1 tool steel and allow the part to reach a safe handling temperature before contact. Consult applicable shop safety standards and material data sheets before grinding or welding tool steel stock.
