The VALUE COLLECTION NT-632-187-AS is a 6-32 UNC hex-drive set screw with a soft nylon tip point, manufactured from Grade 8 alloy steel. Set screws of this type transmit holding force directly through the fastener body against a shaft or mating surface without a protruding head. The nylon tip protects the contact surface from marring or galling, making this fastener suitable for applications where the mating shaft or bore finish must be preserved. The hex socket drive accepts standard inch hex keys. Thread length measures 3/16 inches along the full threaded body. This fastener is commonly installed by machinists, millwrights, maintenance technicians, and general trade professionals working on mechanical assemblies.
This set screw is used in light mechanical assemblies, fixture work, shaft collars, pulleys, knobs, and similar components where a flush or recessed fastener is required. The 6-32 UNC thread size suits smaller-scale hardware and precision equipment. The soft nylon tip point is particularly well suited for applications involving polished shafts, soft metals, or surfaces that must remain scratch-free after installation. Typical install environments include industrial equipment maintenance, HVAC equipment assemblies, electrical panel components, and general mechanical fabrication.
Designed as a standard 6-32 UNC set screw for use in any tapped hole conforming to the 6-32 Unified National Coarse thread standard where a soft-tip, hex-drive, headless fastener is required.
Installation is performed with a correctly sized inch hex key or Allen driver; use of an undersized key risks rounding the socket drive. De-energize or lock out any equipment before accessing shaft collars, pulleys, or mechanical assemblies containing these fasteners. Do not exceed the recommended seating torque for the 6-32 thread size, as over-torquing can shear the fastener or damage the nylon tip. Apply thread-locking compound only if specified by the assembly drawing, as the nylon tip itself provides a degree of vibration resistance.
