The VALUE COLLECTION NS86235157 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, punches, and precision machining applications. Cut to 1 inch thick, 1-1/2 inches wide, and 18 inches long, it arrives ready for grinding and heat treatment. A2 tool steel offers good dimensional stability during air hardening, making it a reliable choice where distortion control during heat treat is critical. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inch, square tolerance to plus or minus 0.001 inch, and length tolerance to plus or minus 0.062 inch. Machinists, tool and die makers, and fabrication shops work with this material for blanks, wear components, and tooling fixtures.
This flat stock is suited for job shops and in-house toolrooms producing punches, dies, gauges, and forming tools. The 18-inch length accommodates most tooling blank applications without requiring additional bar stock. Width tolerance is held to plus 0.000 minus 0.005 inch, keeping finished blanks within tight fitment requirements on milling setups. It ships as a single piece and is intended for one-at-a-time ordering, making it practical for low-volume tooling projects or prototype work where a full bar would go to waste.
Designed as a standard A2 tool steel flat stock blank suitable for use in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications requiring air-hardening material per AISI Type A2 specification.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers using appropriate coolant and personal protective equipment. Heat treatment of A2 tool steel requires controlled furnace equipment and should follow established AISI A2 hardening procedures. Wear eye and hand protection when handling bar stock edges, which may be sharp as-received. Verify dimensional requirements against your tooling drawing before beginning any material removal.
