The VALUE COLLECTION NLI20310NE-10LBBX is a 5/16-18 UNC hex lock nut with a nylon insert locking mechanism, manufactured from Grade 2 steel with a zinc-plated finish. The nylon insert deforms around mating threads when the nut is driven down, creating a prevailing-torque lock that resists vibration loosening without requiring thread-locking compounds or additional hardware. Standing 23/64 inches high with a 1/2-inch width across flats, this fastener is sized for standard open-end or box wrenches. Right-hand thread direction follows standard UNC convention. It is a common general-purpose fastener used by maintenance technicians, HVAC installers, plumbers, electricians, and fabricators across a wide range of assembly and repair applications.
This hex lock nut is suited for residential and light commercial mechanical assemblies where vibration resistance is required without permanent thread locking. Typical applications include equipment mounting, bracket fastening, panel assembly, and field repair work in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical trade environments. The zinc-plated finish provides a moderate level of corrosion resistance appropriate for indoor and protected outdoor use. The 5/16-18 UNC thread size is one of the most common fractional thread specifications encountered in North American trade work.
Designed as a general-purpose UNC hex lock nut compatible with any 5/16-18 UNC externally threaded fastener or tapped hole conforming to inch-standard thread specifications.
Drive using a 1/2-inch open-end, box, or socket wrench. Power down and de-energize any equipment before performing fastener work on live assemblies. The nylon insert is designed for single-use locking — reusing a nylon insert nut on the same or a different bolt reduces prevailing-torque effectiveness and is generally not recommended in structural or vibration-critical joints. Follow applicable mechanical codes and equipment manufacturer torque requirements for the specific assembly.
