The VALUE COLLECTION MSC67706481X is a Size 6 threaded taper pin machined from 303 grade 18-8 stainless steel with a passivated finish. The large end diameter measures 0.339 inches and the pin length is 2.5 inches. The threaded end is cut to a 5/16-24 thread form, allowing a nut to be used for positive retention after installation. Taper pins of this type are used to secure hubs, collars, levers, and similar components to shafts, transmitting torque through the wedging action of the tapered shank. The passivated stainless steel construction resists corrosion in wet or chemically active environments. This pin meets AN386 standards and is suited for light mechanical assemblies where stainless material is specified.
This pin is appropriate for use in mechanical, industrial, and maintenance applications where a removable, self-locking fastener is required to align or secure mating parts on a shaft. The 303 stainless steel alloy offers good machinability along with corrosion resistance, making it a common choice in food processing equipment, marine hardware, instrumentation, and general industrial machinery. The threaded end allows for controlled extraction without damage to the assembly. It is sold individually and is handled by machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians.
Designed as a standard Size 6 threaded taper pin for mechanical assemblies requiring AN386-compliant taper pin fasteners in stainless steel construction.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a taper pin reamer to prepare the mating hole to the correct taper before driving or pressing the pin into place. The mating assembly must be fully supported and the shaft or component secured before insertion. A nut threaded onto the 5/16-24 end should be used to retain the pin after seating. For removal, back the nut off and drive the pin out from the small end using an appropriate pin punch, taking care not to damage threads.
