The VALUE COLLECTION MSC67706440X is a Size 6 externally threaded taper pin machined from Grade 303, 18-8 stainless steel with a passivated finish. The pin measures 2 inches in length with a large-end diameter of 0.339 inches and a 5/16-24 threaded end that accepts a standard nut for positive retention. Passivation removes surface iron and enhances corrosion resistance without altering dimensional tolerances. This fastener meets AN386 standards, making it suitable for precision alignment and locking applications in mechanical assemblies across HVAC, plumbing, and general industrial equipment. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians commonly install these pins where controlled taper engagement is required.
Threaded taper pins are used in shaft-to-hub connections, lever assemblies, and mechanical linkages where the pin must be secured against backing out under vibration or cyclic load. The 5/16-24 thread allows a nut or retaining nut to clamp the pin firmly after seating in a reamed tapered hole. The stainless steel construction and passivated surface make this pin appropriate for wet environments, outdoor equipment, and applications where mild chemical exposure is a concern. Typical settings include pump assemblies, valve linkages, fan shaft connections, and light mechanical structures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install threaded taper pin for Size 6 reamed tapered holes requiring a 5/16-24 threaded retention style in standard mechanical assemblies.
Threaded taper pins are installed by a machinist or maintenance technician into a reamed tapered hole sized to match the pin taper. The assembly must be fully de-energized and de-pressurized before disassembly or pin removal. Drive the pin into the reamed hole by hand or with a pin driver until the taper seats firmly, then apply the retaining nut to the threaded end to secure the pin in place. Never force an oversized pin into an undersized hole, as this can split hubs or distort bores.
