The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-81137812 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this plug chamfer tap is engineered for production threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, reducing clogging and allowing continuous feed through the workpiece. With a 10-32 UNF thread form and a H7 thread limit tolerance, this tap delivers accurate, consistent threads suited to fine-thread fastener assemblies common in light machinery, fixtures, and precision fabrication work.
This tap is used in both manual and machine tapping operations where a through-hole is present and chip evacuation forward through the hole is acceptable. The plug chamfer provides 3 to 5 chamfered threads, making it suitable as a starting tap in most standard production setups. It is appropriate for job shop, maintenance, and production environments where 10-32 UNF threads are required in steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tap.
Designed as a standard replacement or production spiral point tap for through-hole 10-32 UNF tapping operations in manual tap handles, drill press setups, and CNC tapping attachments that accept standard tap shank sizes.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician following standard threading practices. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before starting. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded — dry tapping HSS taps in steel accelerates wear. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap, so external lubrication is required. Always verify tap drill size against a standard 10-32 UNF tap drill chart before drilling the pilot hole.
