The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04997573 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting metric fine internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this plug chamfer tap is suited for general-purpose threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features 3 flutes and a D3 thread limit, which controls the tolerance of the finished thread. With a thread length of 1.25 inches, it provides adequate engagement for standard through-hole tapping operations. Machinists and toolroom technicians use spiral point taps when chip ejection ahead of the tap is required, making this style a common choice for CNC and manual drilling operations.
This tap is intended for threading M10 x 1.25 metric fine holes in through-hole configurations. The M10 x 1.25 pitch is a fine-thread designation commonly found in automotive, precision mechanical, and industrial assembly work where a finer thread engagement is specified over the standard M10 x 1.5 coarse pitch. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional threading operations. The plug chamfer makes it suitable as a starting tap when the full thread depth begins near the hole opening, and it can also be used as a finishing tap following a taper tap in blind-hole setups with adequate clearance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for M10 x 1.25 metric fine through-hole threading operations on standard tapping machines, CNC machining centers, and manual drill presses equipped with a tapping head or torque-controlled chuck.
This tap is installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with threading operations and applicable shop safety procedures. Before use, confirm the correct drill bit size for M10 x 1.25 metric fine threads is used to prepare the pilot hole. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce tool wear and improve thread finish. Do not exceed the recommended tapping speed for HSS tooling in the material being threaded, and back off periodically to break chips when operating in tougher alloys.
